WHAT IS RUCKING?

Rucking is walking while carrying weight in a backpack or rucksack.

WHAT IT MEANS

Rucking increases the demand of walking by adding load. Walking with a weighted vest is a related loaded-walking activity, although rucking usually refers to a pack.

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

A walk with a securely fitted, lightly loaded backpack is a simple example of rucking.

IMPORTANT LIMITS

Added load also increases physical stress. Appropriate weight, distance and pace depend on the person; a heavier pack is not automatically a better workout. Do not assume rucking is suitable for every joint or bone condition.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is rucking just another name for hiking?

No. Hiking describes the walking activity and terrain; rucking specifically emphasizes carrying a load.
