STEADFAST TRAINING GLOSSARY

WHAT IS MAGNESIUM?

Magnesium is a mineral the body needs for normal muscle and nerve function, energy production and bone health.

WHAT IT MEANS

It comes from foods such as beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains and leafy greens. It is also sold in supplements, but its role in the body does not mean everyone needs an extra dose.

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Beans and pumpkin seeds are two foods that contribute magnesium to a meal.

IMPORTANT LIMITS

Poor sleep or muscle cramps alone do not prove a deficiency. A blood test can help with assessment, but it does not show all the magnesium stored in the body. Supplements can cause diarrhea and interact with medicines; kidney problems can increase the risk from excess magnesium.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does magnesium reliably improve sleep?

Evidence is still limited and mixed. It should not be presented as a proven sleep treatment for everyone.
