STEADFAST TRAINING GLOSSARY

Definition

A calorie deficit occurs when energy intake is lower than energy expenditure over time. Caloric deficit is another name for the same concept.

What it means

The body draws on stored energy to cover the difference. A deficit does not guarantee that every pound lost is fat, and the rate of weight change is not perfectly linear.

A practical example

If estimated expenditure is 2,500 calories and intake is 2,200, the estimated gap is 300 calories. These are illustrative numbers, not a recommended target for every reader.

Putting it into practice

Use an initial estimate, observe trends and adjust thoughtfully. Preserve a manageable training routine and adequate nutrition. An aggressive target that repeatedly disrupts daily life is a reason to review the plan.
