WHAT IS PROTEIN TIMING?

Protein timing describes when you eat protein during the day and in relation to exercise.

WHAT IT MEANS

Protein timing is secondary to getting enough protein across the whole day for most exercisers. Spreading protein-containing foods across meals can be a practical way to meet that need.

A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Breakfast, lunch and dinner can each include a protein source, rather than leaving most of the day’s protein for the evening.

IMPORTANT LIMITS

There is no universal brief post-workout deadline. The timing of your last meal, your total intake and your training schedule all matter.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need a shake immediately after exercise?

Not necessarily. A normal protein-containing meal can also contribute to your daily intake.
